Payroll Officer

Salary: £30,000-£35,000

Hours: 8.30am-5pm, on-site

Ashley Kate are currently working with a client seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join their fast-paced and high-volume environment. The successful candidate will take ownership of both weekly and monthly payroll cycles, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to work to tight deadlines in a dynamic setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver accurate processing of weekly and monthly payrolls across a range of employee groups.
  • Maintain and update payroll data, ensuring records are correct and reconciled.
  • Handle statutory deductions and payments such as PAYE, NI, pensions, and statutory leave entitlements.
  • Manage all payroll changes including new starters, leavers, and contract updates, ensuring systems remain consistent and up to date.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and managers to resolve any payroll-related questions or issues.
  • Assist with year-end duties, including statutory reporting and audit support.
  • Safeguard sensitive information and ensure all payroll activity complies with GDPR.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance payroll processes and system efficiency.

The ideal candidate:

  • Solid background in processing payroll from start to finish within a fast-paced or high-volume setting.
  • Experience working with both weekly and monthly payroll schedules.
  • Strong understanding of UK payroll rules and statutory requirements.
  • High level of accuracy, good numerical skills, and excellent organisational ability.
  • Comfortable working to tight deadlines and managing competing priorities.
  • Confident using Excel and payroll reporting tools.
  • Experience with HR or payroll systems (knowledge of iTrent is beneficial).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with colleagues at all levels.
