Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Legal Cashier or a Bookkeeper, to join a dynamic finance team in Scarborough. This role is essential to maintaining financial compliance and efficiency within a the firm. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing client and office transactions, overseeing financial processes, and supporting internal and external audits. Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately record client and office transactions to ensure legal compliance.
  • Manage financial operations including VAT returns and regular reporting.
  • Prepare monthly and annual management reports for senior leadership.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable to maintain smooth financial operations.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve financial controls and processes.
  • Provide support for internal and external audits, ensuring all requirements are met.
  • Manage payroll submissions and pension administration in compliance with regulations.
  • Advise on and maintain compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR).

Qualifications:

  • Relevant accounting qualification (AAT, ILFM, or equivalent) is desirable; bookkeeping experience is essential.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR).
  • Proven experience in client account management, reconciliations, and month-end closing.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a similar finance role, preferably within a regulated industry such as legal services.
  • Experience with foreign currency and intercompany transactions.
  • Experience in reporting to the firm's COFA or advising on SAR compliance matters.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially with intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Familiarity with case management systems used in legal practice.
