Ashley Kate Finance and HR are pleased to be working on a new Financial Accountant role for their Global Engineering client.  Based on site at the head office in Sheffield you will report directly to the Group Finance Director, with direct and frequent access to the Group Chief Financial Officer.

You will be responsible for the compliance and accuracy of the General Ledgers for all Group companies while ensuring the use of accounting best practices. You will adapt and update financial processes, policies, controls, and systems, to seamlessly scale with the business.

Due to a restructure within the department you will be responsible for supporting the review and updating of financial systems and tools currently in place. There will be a requirement to help lead finance in the absence of the FD and so you must have experience with training and mentoring.
As the business grows, there is scope for this role to develop into a management position, and ultimately, progress into higher levels of seniority.
The role also has traditional finance function accountabilities:


  • Ensure the accuracy of the General ledgers and compliance to the relevant reporting standards.
  • Maintain accounting best practices while performing duties.
  • Ensure period end reporting cycles are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Produce succinct and relevant analysis, reports, and presentations, suitable for senior management.
  • Provide leadership & strong management to the accounting team.
  • Recommend and introduce new financial policies, processes, and controls as and when required.
  • Ensuing all deadlines are met (both internal and external).
  • Identify risks within Finance as soon as identified.
  • Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Perform special projects at the request of the business as and when is required.


Financial Accountant - About you.
This is a development role with a lot of training and support provided. Our client is looking for a candidate who has a strong technical base, is ambitious, hard working, has potential, and is looking to move their career to the next phase.


You will need to be


  • Chartered accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent). Exam qualified will be considered.
  • Have a strong understanding of revenue recognition considerations and methodology for project / contracts businesses.
  • Have an up-to-date working knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS.
  • Have excellent analytical skills with the ability to present financial data using detailed reports and charts.
  • Be an advanced Excel user with an ability to create concise, efficient, and accurate models.
  • Have familiarity of Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERP).
  • Have managed or led team members, being responsible for delegating and reviewing tasks.
  • Be self-motivated, organised, ambitious, and focused on achieving deadlines and targets.
